Learned a great lesson while watching the first disc of the first season of The Wire

One of the characters, DeAngelo, explained to two guys playing checkers with a chess board how to play chess. After DeAngelo differentiates the game to their level understanding, there was a question in regards to the king; where the pawn (once it reaches the las rank) can become any piece except the king. The quote pops up…

The king will always be king…

IMHO….In education, our top leader(s) could be are considered the king. My question is could a teacher rise to the top to become a great leader in education and win the game? Or are great leaders just “born leaders”? I guess I need to do my research to see the ratio of teachers promoted to top positions in education where success is actually happening.

If you desire to check out the referenced excerpt, just youtube the above quote and The Wire. Please beware for strong language and drug reference from the show.
